Answers to common questions are answered below. Please note that we do have preferred suppliers, especially for catering and the Audio visual technology. Please refer to our Panel of Preferred suppliers below.

  • Which types of events are welcomed at Erskine?
We expect Erskine Chapel to be a popular wedding and funeral venue given the grandeur and incredible acoustics, however we welcome working with Wellingtonians who may want to book a range of events: corporate meetings/away days, bespoke performances, concerts, product launches, private celebrations and fundraisers. We only work with trusted and experienced providers to ensure this wonderful asset for Wellington is able to be enjoyed through a wide variety of uses. There may be some occasions where an event is not appropriate for us to host. Please advise details of your event at time of enquiry. Erskine Chapel is a new commercial venue for hire. We'd like to give it some time to settle in before accepting smaller recurring bookings in case these stop larger projects being accepted. An excellent resource from Wellington City Council for smaller community bookings is available here.
  • Which days/times is Erskine Chapel available for hire?
Weekdays and weekends from 9am to 10pm. Due to the venue being located within a residential zone, we require functions including music to be finished by 10pm and all guests off-site by 10:30pm.
  • How many people can the chapel accommodate?
We have restricted event numbers to 100 plus staff, due to being located in a residential area.
  • Is there parking for guests?
Yes, but limited to 23 (including 2 x accessible parks). These parks are clearly marked. There is also a bus park for groups. A traffic management plan is provided as part of the booking process and must be adhered to.
  • Is Erskine Chapel wheelchair accessible?
Yes, there is a ramp to enter the ground floor, and an accessible toilet and lift to level 1 for the chapel. The only non-accessible area is the choir room (chapel mezzanine level).
  • Are there noise restraints?
As you can appreciate, Erskine Chapel is located within a residential zone and we want to care for our neighbours. Acoustic testing has been undertaken by Marshal Day. We require events to use our approved specialist audio visual provider, who has a good understanding of our requirement to be respectful to the neighbours. Please note that we do not allow bands for events.
  • Is there an outdoor space to use?
There is an outdoor area located across from the front entrance of the chapel, however, guests must not be outside of the venue after 10pm due to noise constraints with being located in a residential area.

Yes, we do. The Wellington Company has a proud history of supporting our community and Erskine Chapel will be an incredible space for Wellingtonians to enjoy. However, we must take commercial bookings to help recoup the $7million+ spend required for the strengthening and restoration. You can read more about that work here. We have a Community Hire policy for several philanthropic hires of Erskine Chapel annually. Naturally, these applications will be assessed on merit for the community, and for Erskine Chapel. Please email us for the 2024 application form.
